Internet of Things for Smarter Cities

Cities account for 80% of the world's carbon emissions and can be attributed to more than a billion cars which is projected to double by 2020. Cities lose almost 50% of the water due to leaky infrastructure. With more people moving to cities for better opportunities, these numbers are only going to get worse. With depleting natural resources and ever increasing population, it is imperative that efficient uses need to be explored and enforced. Internet of Things will be a key player to make this a reality in the near future because it will not only make our lives easier and more connected, but it will also provide us the means to make informed decisions for a better world. The need for smarter cities goes far beyond smarter buildings, traffic, parking etc. and into the areas of cleaner environment, better healthcare and public safety.
